Frequently Asked Question

Some question we regularly get are answered here, perhaps we cover something here you still may have a question about.

How do I get a screen for my home ?

The number of times we receive this request from Masjid members, our development team eventually had to oblige.  Currently it is required to have a computer at home, as a result you can run the our app developed for either Windows, MacOS or Linux. Please visit our download page to get the home version of the software.

Alternatively, we are developing a home version of the screen in the form of a mirror. The home screen is configurable to alert the user with an audio Azan from a selection of masjids from around the world.

I got a computer, can I use this instead ?

Do I have to buy a raspberry Pi computer to run this service. ? No, Its possible to use a regular (even a slightly older) computer or laptop to run the screen for the masjid. However thre are still many benefits of running the screen on a Pi.

1) Reliable – This has been tested extensively in various masjid and runs without fault.
2) Suitable – The screen software, is perfectly capable of running on other hardware, however there are elements specifically designed for the raspberry pi in mind.
3) Low Noise/Power – There is no noise when running the pi and the cost of running it is extremely low. The equivalent of using a phone charger.
4) Secure – The desktop computers are exposed to other issues that we will not support (example is updating your firewall and anti-virus programs).
5) Offline Support – The raspberry Pi can run without an internet connection once the times have been loaded.

Alternatively, if you still feel your best or quickest route is to use your own computer, then the requirements are to run a recent version of chrome. Then please follow these instructions to configure the computer to display the screen correctly.
